Thanks - but its not generally HDRs...
I'm fine with others... hmm...

Possibly its the moss in the trees and the wooden tiles on the building. They kind of make my head go in loops if I look at them closely. Kind of like one of those 3D images.

The whole overdone HDR thing is too common, and everyone's seen it.

Honestly, that could be said about nearly everything these days. I will give it a try though. I've only used Photomatix a few times.

Maybe - because else its "nice colours".
Just a random thought, print it ;) and see how visitors to your house react, or see if you can sell that image :D

The halos are there - but weak, you hardly notice them.

And maybe some people like images that will start to irritate you when you look at it for too long :D or a bit closer ;)

i am also getting a mixed reaction, can't really focus on the house because of distractions provided by the trees. can you move the trees a little further? :)

... does it really matter?i see with my eyes, i shoot with my fingers.

IMO this image has little delineation between elements, is quite busy, and processing has produced a bland mush of soft 2 dimensional pixels and that's the good news ... :) ... just kidding (about good news). Instead of framing the house with a large DOF a shallow DOF providing focus on the ruins and OOF on the trees will increase the visual contrast and create better separation between graphic elements in the frame. Light matters a lot in making an image in landscape multi-dimensional. If these ruins are close by spend some time visiting to study the light.

Unfortunately they are 6 hours away and we are moving out of the south in a couple months. Doubt we ever make it back down there in this lifetime. Too many other places to hit.

Hope you didn't take my critique to heart. I have no real idea where you are in your game. The following are a few things I consider when crafting an image.

Landscape is a hit or miss sport and on a rare occasion everything comes together. I live in a fairly rich area for scenics and it really takes living here to increase the odds of obtaining a great capture.

I prefer contrast control of each element of interest over HDR automation. This approach offers precise control over tone and masking.

In general I identify the main subject and spend some time at the site figuring out how to provide the right element of visual contrast to support the subject.

I'm not a fan of this type of HDR. I much prefer a more natural look. By that's one man's opinion :)

I have watched beginners get verbally slaughtered by advanced students as sort of a traditional goal of making separation from this level. I personally don't take critique well unless it's coming from someone who's eye I trust.

I take everything to heart. I cried for hours over this (even though it was posted 30 min ago) :D

I whine like a woman when I get critiqued. Actually that's not fair to women. Of course I think I'm bringing something of value to the table and it ain't always so.
