I'd intended to mention the racket this thing makes in the picture-posting post. My old Elan IIe (now my wife's camera) makes a "stereotype" 35mm sound - "chik-wheep". The existing A2E goes "snick", and if you listen closely you can imagine hearing the film advance.
The 10D goes "chk". That's it - nothing more - what a wonderful sound! It's even quieter than the A2E, and I didn't think that'd be possible. The 20D I heard on our vacation had a noise level fairly equivalent to the Elan IIe, and I thought that was pretty danged good. With the first shot of the 10D, I really had to chimp to make sure it had fired; I expected to see something had gone wrong. Another reason to be quite pleased with my decision to go with the older generation! Sure, 1/250 flash sync would be nice, but not really necessary, and 1/8000 shutter speed would have the potential for some cool shots. However, I have no need at all for another 1.7 frames per second, the dump-to-card speed is plenty fast, and I doubt seriously I'll ever want to print anything over 8x10. More importantly right now, I was able to get a complete setup with grip, batteries, and a half-gig card for $300 less than the cheapest 20D body I saw anywhere.
Yowza!
