Cogratulations on your purchase. I love it with my grip. It fits well in your hands and it feels good, much better than the 300D which I used as a second body a few times.

And when you do decide to upgrade, by that time, I'm sure you'll have better lens and if you want the 20D, it'll probably be around 700-800 when the 30D or whatever next camera comes out.

I'd intended to mention the racket this thing makes in the picture-posting post. My old Elan IIe (now my wife's camera) makes a "stereotype" 35mm sound - "chik-wheep". The existing A2E goes "snick", and if you listen closely you can imagine hearing the film advance.

The 10D goes "chk". That's it - nothing more - what a wonderful sound! It's even quieter than the A2E, and I didn't think that'd be possible. The 20D I heard on our vacation had a noise level fairly equivalent to the Elan IIe, and I thought that was pretty danged good. With the first shot of the 10D, I really had to chimp to make sure it had fired; I expected to see something had gone wrong. Another reason to be quite pleased with my decision to go with the older generation! Sure, 1/250 flash sync would be nice, but not really necessary, and 1/8000 shutter speed would have the potential for some cool shots. However, I have no need at all for another 1.7 frames per second, the dump-to-card speed is plenty fast, and I doubt seriously I'll ever want to print anything over 8x10. More importantly right now, I was able to get a complete setup with grip, batteries, and a half-gig card for $300 less than the cheapest 20D body I saw anywhere.

Yowza!

two tips on the 10D. First you hear about the wake time issue. Quick work around is to go into the preferences and turn the timeout way up so that it almost never goes to sleep. I do this all this time and have never had any battery wear issues - 700+ shots on a charge is typical. And if necessary, just remember to tap the shutter occasionally and it won't go to sleep at all... do this and you'll never miss a shot. Second on frame rate and buffer... yeah the 2 per second is nice to have but good timing compensates for not just sitting there and leaning on the trigger. Also with sports when you shoot, fire - pause for a second and the fire again - the pause just for a second and then go again... the buffer clears fast enought when shooting JPEG that you can crank out anywhere between 10 and 15 shots before you really have to pause and let it catch up. It just take practice but your quickly get the rythem of it. And enjoy it... I have both 10D and 20D.... and its shutter is ever so much more pleasing to the ear then the can crunch of the 20D... if I need a quit camera - the 10D is the one called to service.
