I currently am looking to upgrade from my current camera Canon Rebel XTI and I have been looking around and came upon the Canon 1D Mark II which seems like it meets my needs for baseball photography. What do a couple of you more "pro" guys think?

The 1d mk II is a little long in the tooth but a solid workhorse and I still know plenty of pro's using them and the "N" version as well. Bill -

If you've been using EF-S lenses with your XTI, you should be aware that they will NOT mount on a 1DII. FS: 85 1.8 w/hood - $300!!!

Have you looked at the 7D ? You don't loose the fps, but you do gain. If you shoot in most amateur venues, which are lighted much like dungeons especially in the outfield, give some thought about the fact that you will have to get a lens that allows you to shoot under those conditions, (hint at least a 70-200 2.8) A great photo only starts with the shutter release,

IMO the MkII is one of the best bodies Canon has ever made for baseball. Jerry ~ Baseball is a game where only defensive players handle the ball and offensive players who hit successfully in only one third of their at bats are among the best in the sport.

Rocketdun Senior Member 295 posts Joined Jan 2009 Location: Atlanta, GA More info | I have no doubt you get some great photos. When I was upgrading my 30D I considered a 1D Mark IIn I should have taken that choice, but I thought my needs at the time were better suited with a 5D Mark II. I should have trusted my instincts and gone with the 1D Mark IIn, but then the sales rep got the camera from the warehouse and took a look at it he found a few things and said he would not purchase the used one they had in stock. So I hope the camera fairy will leave a buy one get one free coupon A great photo only starts with the shutter release,

Apr 30, 2010 15:08 | #15 I have been using the 40D for the past 3 years shooting cycling. Recently I got a Mk II N and now the 40D feels like a toy! It still takes great photos and I'm still quite pleased with the 40D, but just love the Mk II ! My pictures: John Wilke Photography
