First of all, greetings to my fellow Canon DSLR users. :)

My almost an year old 40D which has been mostly well behaved has acting cranky of late. About two days back, I started getting the infamous error 01, after cleaning the lens contact for about five times- everything seemed to be fine.

Sadly, the aperture of my camera appears to stuck into a very small hole now. It has focusing problems. Any help and information will be greatly appreciated.

Sound like a lens issue rather than a camera issue. Do you have another lens to put on it so you can test it out?

To establish if it's a camera or lens issue, do you experience the same problem with a different lens?

Afraid I don't have any other lens. :( However, this seems to be a lens issue. For reference, this one is an EFS 17-85mm IS.

Any suggestions on what I could try, apart from taking it to the service center?

For what it's worth, I had a similar problem with this lens. It had to go back to Canon for repair.

Take your camera to a local shop if you can. Try out a new lens on your body just to check. But it sounds like you need to call canon and get a repair quote. I dont know whether the repair costs merit repairing it or replacing it on that lens.
