Is it possible for a prime lens to be soft wide open on other camera bodies?

I`m really puzzled, bec. I put my Sigmalux to a friends 1dII and he said it was soft from f1.4 to 4.0

Here is my test shots at f1.4 using my 5Dc.

Focus at the middle dude.

Sorry, picture quality are not great due to Tinypic.com conversion.

Here are my test shots when I first got it.

As all cameras have a design tolerance for AF commands to the lens, it is perfectly possible for one body to focus better with a given lens than another. That's why Canon now offers microadjust on most current bodies.

Yea, my guess is that the AF performance was different. Very small AF errors will masquerade as lens softness.

+1 To get a lens that is perfect wide open you need a good combo of a body and a lens. Is your friend use to shooting with primes or large aperture lenses?

My friend likes zoom. I`m thinking of selling this Sigma, but I don`t want to be judge as not disclosing the truth. It`s pretty decently sharp on my 5dc body as you can see on the sample pictures.
