If the photographer is an excellent rider, cameras and lenses are a good horse, then the B+W filter is the best saddle! But I find more and more that I use UV filters less and less. I tend to leave them on for general walk around but for that which is important I'll tend to take them off and go nekkid, that way there is no question or doubt as to whether the filter might affect the image, especially for something that is going to be shot for publication. Admittedly I also hardly ever use a polarizer for the same reasons. I figure that with my Canon IDMKIII camera or the IDsMKIII I sometimes use, the images for what the cameras are is fantastic, but just like in the old film days, they don't really compare to medium or large format images. But since I cannot manage to purchase those cameras I do manage to take every caution to make my images clean, well exposed and as sharp as possible. And if I did buy the new medium format DSLR from Leica I probably would buy these filters for the lenses but not necessarily keep them on all the time. It's just adding two more surfaces for the light to deal with. Ms.Jannie

I think its just more for the collectors than anything else as they do not offer any improvement optically. [Gear List | Flickr
