.....is what someone would say if:
a) They can't tell a good camera/lens from their arse.
b) Sadly, thay picked up a "bad" body or lens.
c) They need to have more frequent trips to their shrink!
;)
WOW, what a camera and what a lens!

I picked up my shiny new 7D yesterday afternoon, and after much pondering on my 200L (semi-bought from a matey) I decided against keeping it and instead picked up a Siggy 30 f/1.4.

Here are my first shots. And a couple of posts down is a bonus shot with my 100-400 using the 7D's wonderful, easy-to-use, and logical AF system.

Things will improve a lot, but with less than 24hrs use on its little internal clock, I think I can judge already that Canon have cracked it, as far as making an exceptional camera for people who love to shoot anything and everything, but don't want to lug a 1-series around.

Look at that! With no flash, the "pop" from the bamboo across this ancient stream is remarkable.
35L...? Not on your Nelly!!!
;)

And below, a truly old home in a tiny wee back-street....a bit of TLC thanks to Lightroom 3-beta, and voila!

And the hawk!
First try using the AF, set at "slow response", in AI-servo mode, 8fps if needed, but I just shot off 2 at a time.
Yum!

Probably due to the loss of quality from massive RAW files to piddlingly-small jpegs that fit inside the POTN limit.
Plus, I've only had my "baby" under 24hrs....gimme a chance!
;)

But, considering the number of people saying that the 7D was full of poo, I can see straight away that the vast majority of that was probably user-error, and I can truly feel, deep down, way down their in my underpants(!) that this honey-of-a-camera is going to be with me a LONG time!

:lol::lol::lol:
I love how some POTN members can take things so lightly!

But, thanks a lot!
Even though you probably didn't mean it as such, that's a big compliment....
....had the camera and lens less than 24 hours, and 2 of my 5 first pics impressed you!
Cheers!
:D

EDIT:
And in case anyone wonders, despite the Avatar resemblance, Omaru and I are in no way related ;-)a

The sepia house image is very nice indeed! But that is shooting with the lens stopped down a bit. Wide open the images are somewhat soft... still, decent "pop" coming from a cropper body!

edit: check for back/front focus... Sigma lenses tend to be a tad misaligned out-of-factory.

edit 2: hehehe... check this "POP" from a 1Ds2 + 85/1.2L for comparison :-)

Nope - f/1.4 using a side focus point!

Thanks for that.
And yes, I will be checking the Siggy when I have a moment...but any issues here with softness are probably (in part!) due to an over-excited Skygod!
:D

Not sure what you're trying to show with a really small watch like that..show a bigger one like the OP did and show the world that is sharp.

Compare the "pop" with his thin bamboo shot, both images reduced to web size resolution. I don't have my original image since this was my *first* shot with my brand-new 1Ds2 and 85L. I guarantee that it was razor sharp... it should well be for a $1500 lens.

Beautiful shot Ellery!
And hopefully you can see that my tongue-in-cheek title was to see who would attack and who would demo the "opposition".
Of course, what I really want to say is that Canon have finally, IMHO, produced a crop camera which nobody should slate. I'm amazed, after just 3 or 4 hours having it in my grubby paws, how well put together it feels.
And the Siggy, for only ¥48,000 (about $500) does a fine job too.

Gimme a week or two to get used to my 7D, and I think that if I set up my old pocket watch from 1903, use off camera flash, and make sure Missus Skygod isn't around (as my, err, latest photo-toys are, as yet, unknown to her!!!!), I think I could produce a very good competitor to your shot...and for a pretty small fraction of the prices of a 1Ds2 and 85L.

So, as we're (mostly) Canon users in POTN, it makes me feel all warm 'n' fuzzy knowing that for almost any budget, we can all get our hands on excellent gear!
:D

i love the combo! I have had my 7d for a couple of months and just got my siggy 30mm. I love the first 2 image you posted. yes wide open is a bit soft but its beautiful the way it is more of a dreamy look. Love this combo and Love the old house pic too.

Since the siggy... my canon 50 has been sitting on the shelf...
