I have been pondering this for a while. I like to shoot portraits and love the tilt Shift look. Has anyone swapped the 50L for the 45 TSE?

No. I had a 45 TS for a bit, and while it is a nice lens it could never replace my 50L.

TSE lenses are MF only, so that may be a deal breaker for some. The 50L is a lot faster, seems hard to compare the 2 lenses.

They are very different lenses to use, By nature the 45 TS-E is slow to use being manual focus, particularly when you have a lot of tilt applied it can be tricky to use, moving subjects in particular, such as having a couple walk whilst shooting them is so much harder than what it is on a lens such as the 50 1.2

I think the 50 will get much more use whilst the 45 is a great lens to own and great for an effect but really not the sort of lens you will leave on the camera and use in a lot of scenarios.

Also focusing the 45 with tilt into sunlight/flare or in low light situations is really tricky and thus slow.

no... i had a 45 TS-E, just like tim, it honestly CANNOT EVER replace the 50L. I sold the TS-E 45mm because i am waiting for it's upgrade. it's really a one trick pony for portrait work, just like the 15mm FE. Use it a couple of times and put it away.

have you thought of putting a 24L in your lineup? i think you'll enjoy the unique story telling ability of the 24L.

Totally agree with you. The 24L is an amazing lens on FF.

I agree that the 24L is nice on FF, but after looking at the OPs gear, he definitely needs a TS-E24II or TS-E17II.

the 24L is sooo much fun! My girlfriend took it away for 6 months to mount it onto a 7D. We finally got rid of the 7D - in exchange for an x100, and the 24L is finally back in my hands! :D i LOVEEE IT! it's my favorite lens + 50L!

i had this BLIND chase for the 35/85/135 and i did it all wrong! I should have started with the 50L, and followed it with the 35L, 24L then 135L and finally the 85L.
