I see alot of talk about how to take HDR photographs and Ive always been curious about a few things. Hopefully, someone can answer them for me.

  1. I have a D30. Is it capable of this thing called "bracketing"? And if so, how does one go about that?
  2. When people talk about exposures of -2,0, and +2, are they talking simply about f-stops? And would 0 be right in the middle of the meter reading?
  3. I have a remote for the D30. Its similar to the one for the Canon, but its not a Canon brand. Can this handle changing the exposure so that the camera doesnt get moved or do you still have to change the exposure on the camera for each shot?
  4. Is it best to shoot the pictures in aperture priority mode?
Thank you so much for the info! So nice to have a place to go to clear up confusion! Thanks all!

1. Yes, a quick peek at the manual shows that it does indeed do exposure bracketing (page 82) http://www.cleaningdigitalcameras.com/pdf/D30_Hardware.pdf (external link)
2. Yes, your looking for several images exposed differently.
3. Don't know what you have.
4. I do, that way the DOF does not change.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

Sorry. I should have included the remote that I have. Its description is here:

Scott, with Auto Exposure Bracketing you don't have to adjust the camera for each shot -- it does the adjustment automatically for each shot.

If you choose to do it manually (as many do to set their own bracketing) then either Manual or Aperture Priority would be the way to go. In Av, you use Exposure Compensation to change the shutter speed, keeping the aperture and ISO constant. In Manual, you just change the shutter speed to the spots you want.
