I went to a florist about a week ago and got some flowers to do some photography, and the florist loved what I did. She wants to get a gallery wrap for her store, and would like to use some of the images for business cards. Should I make the cards for her, or sell her the prints on a CD? How much would you charge in this situation?

You would sell the images, kinda awkward to make cards every time she runs out.

It depends, are you doing design work too? If so, that is a separate product to sell them. If there is some money to be made I would definitely go for it.

She would give me the jpg of her logo, and just have me put the basic information on the card for her

hmm you have given me something to consider. I had planned to go down to the local florist and buy solo flowers to shoot, they might want copies which is not my intention but just to shoot flowers for pleasure and practice. Botanical gardens are scarce in my area so flower shops are about the only source for accessable flowers.

Haha I wasnt expecting it either, when I walked in with that confused look on my face, she assumed I was a photographer. She said that photographers come in all the time, but they never get to see the images, and I guess since I went back (for sunflowers that were mid bloom on my first visit) I showed her the images and she fell in love.

Side note: ALWAYS keep your camera on you... =)

This sounds like two seperate things.

firstly, sell her a gallery wrap print at your usual gallery wrap print prices. :)

secondly, the business cards
1. you could sell the rights of the image to them to print as many as they want
2. you could get a card template they want to use from them and you insert the image and they pay you every time they want cards printed
3. or you could design a card using your image and charge for the creation and then charge for each set of prints
4. or sell the rights to the created card and give them the card design so they can print as many as they want. :)

Another idea is to give them free business cards with your image and their information, and somewhere put your business card on it as well. Either the back, half of the front, or 2/5's of the bottom of the card. This way you get almost free advertising to all their customers. :)

I may have to make a trip to the flourist, hmm.

Great shots. If you have the ability to do the cards you can do a one time # of cards for her with the pricing for the CD containing the images. also include the completed cards on the disc. She can then go to a local shop and have the cards printed out when she needs them.

How much would you charge in this situation?

I am also trying to figure this out. I approached a florist about business cards and showed her some of my work and everyone there loved the pictures.

I gave her two options, one to buy the file from me, I forget the number I gave, I think it was about $250.

The 2nd option was to buy cards from me in sets of 500, and I marked up the price by $40. If I had of been thinking I would have put in a condition that she has to buy them every 6 months for 2 years or something like that to guarantee the money. This way its a bit of a hassle and not as much money up front, but if they give out more cards than they expect, it could mean more sales for me, and its more contact with them, which helps build the repertoire and could lead to other photography related jobs.

In the end I haven't heard from her and its been about a month. She was pretty busy with a couple things so I should send her a reminder email, see if she wants to buy the design.

She did say I was really short changing myself when I gave her the prices, but im sure there are people here that would say $100 is a good amount to charge for the file.

Figure out your travel time and expenses, time and expenses of doing the shoot and time for the processing and figure it out that way?

As for the banner, not a clue where to begin to charge for that. :)

But the constant meeting up can build a good relationship and lead to other events. Possibly a good chance to leave coupons behind for their customers.

I like #1,3 & 5 the best. -- but it's her choice which to use. PS - I'm a florist.
