I did a small maternity shoot in RAW. Converted to Tiff. Discovered I couldn't work with the files in Photoshop with Tiff. I converted to PSD. Manipulated the photos. Then saved as JPEG.

Now I can't open the finished product. All that work!

Is this a common occurance? I have never had trouble opening a file before. I am confused.

Any suggestions?

What software did you use to do the Raw conversion? What OS?

BTW, you may get more of a response on the Raw, Post Processing and Priting section:

The Canon program. I am so upset. I can't think of the name of the program. Digital professional? The program that opens with the EOS Utility.

Bummer. Good to know. Just took a class from a Canon 'expert' and he was extolling the virtues of the Canon Pro program!

It wasn't the Canon program, i think it was ps.

Is there a way to save a file like this?

The program is Digital Photo Professional (DPP).

Try rather than converting to tiff using the Tools/Transfer to Photoshop command -- it shoud open the file in Photoshop directly as a 16 bit tiff. See how that works for you.

When you say that you "can't open the finished product", do you mean that after you save the Photoshop image as a jpeg, you can't view the jpeg in DPP? Or in some other program? What happpens if you double-click the image in your system file browser?

Again, what OS are you using (Mac or Windows)?

What version of PS are you using?

You may need to walk us step by step in what you are doing, so maybe we can get a handle on what's going on.

Windows

When I saved the file as a JPEG, I am unable to view it period. I can't open it in any program, not even Photoshop. (PS 7)

Lets step back here, see if I understand what happened.

Took the raw files and converted them to 8bit or 16 bit Tiff. opened in PS and they didn't work?

So did you go back to the raw files and convert to psd using DPP or convert the tiff files to psd in PS?

When you saved, you did a save as, what did you save them as? Does the file still have the .jpg extension? There is not enough info to really help out. From what you as saying, everything should have gone well.

That is quite rude and uneccessary.
Eventually everyone has a problem that most likely could have been avoided.

oh, and by the way it is you're as in you are, not your, which is the possessive form.

Now, on to the problem of the original post.

I think you need to answer some of the questions that have been posted to you before anyone can help. There are so many things that could have happened through all of the individual steps that you have taken. There are several members trying to help, but some of their questions need to be addressed first.

Your not missing anything.

Convert the files to 16bit Tiff. Couldn't use the effects I needed in PS. Converted to PS. (worked fined) Completed the work and saved as a JPEG.

Each time I converted I saved the file. Most of the work was in PS and I saved as a JPEG.

It was a picture of a preggo. It took me a while to cut out her profile to make a silhouette. Then I added some lighting that took a while to perfect. I lost the work.

Let me try it when I get home. It sure seems like a valid save path. I cant imagine why it wouldn't work.

Just tried it and it worked without issue. Both the TIFF and the JPG files are can be opened by several applications. Did you take a look at the file extension? I saved it as a IFF file, the choice just above JPG and it opens in PS but DPP cant see it nor does explorer see it as an image file.
