Ok, go ahead and laugh, but seriously, where do I find the serial number for my 7d? It took me ages to find the numbers for my lenses, but I will be damned if I can find it on the camera body.

It's right on the bottom of the camera body.

That is where I thought it would be, but I kid you not, it is not there

Where did you buy the camera? If the serial is missing it is highly possible it's a stolen camera.

Are you looking on the bottom of the camera itself or on the bottom of an attached "grip"?

If you are looking on the bottom of the camera itself and the serial number tag is gone, I would agree with the above comment.

Forgive the cra*ppy image quality, but I just took a quick pic of the bottom of my 7d with my daughter's camera. There is a placard on the bottom of the camera where I thought the number should be, but there is no number that I can see. Maybe I am older than I thought and I need new glasses

I bought the camera body and lenses new from a reputable dealer:confused:

It's supposed to be on that blank area to right (in the picture) of the tripod screw area. How long ago did you buy it? you should contact them regarding the issue.

That's interesting, and possibly disturbing too. Those labels take alot of work to remove, they don't accidentally come off. There was a reason for the removal I am sure. This also could have an impact on any future needed warranty work.

Is the serial number not imbedded in the software?

Agreed, i would expect alot of knife marks or scratches to get the heat pressed plate off

Well I just sent the vendor where I bought the camera an email in which I also included a link to this particular thread, but I will also be phoning them first thing in the morning to discuss the matter.

Come to think of it, I might also ring Canon direct too and ask them how it could happen
