The application of flash, I mean, like the stuff they use on websites and whatever.

Does it hurt adobe if apple doesn't support their software? Or do they get paid a commission somehow if it appears on a site?

More platforms supporting flash, means more exposure and industry support, which in turn leads to more flash content being developed and thus more authoring software being sold by Adobe.

Flash on the mac has sucked forever, normally I would be all over apple for this but Jobs is right in what he's doing.

The sooner Flash is going to die on the web, the better for all of us.

+1

Flash is in this state because it is proprietary software, so in theory is a multiplatform software but in effect go bad on Mac and even on Linux.

I hate when someone tells me what I need and what I don´t need. Put it there and if I feel it´s not good enough, I won´t use it. But as long as I pay for the device, I want to be the one who decides what I will use and what I won´t.

Bravo.

Twaddle.

It's my product. I'll design, build, market and sell it.

If you don't like it's functionality, don't buy it.:)

Bravo.

Agreed. Let the user decide. I think Jobs is giving snow job - he wants to dissed Flash so that he can crack into Flash's 70% penetration into the market. The whole notion of "openness" and "proprietary software" is a red herring. So is the Ipod OS open? Is even the App Store open? Lord Jobs makes the decision what goes in or not. He sets the rules how Apps should be written.

I guess you aren't much of an Apple guy (or gal) then?

Not really... I wanted to buy iPhone but then I found out it didn´t have office editor and GPS worked only when connected to the Internet so I refused it and bought HTC with Windows Mobile. It´s slow, it crashes, but it has everything I can need.
I was also wondering about Mac Pro, but I play lot of games and I don´t need 2 desktops. Maybe I´ll try to install OSX on my PC.
Now I look at iPad, it could be interesting solution for saving and showing photos when I´m away from home and need to save my batteries and storage space but it´s not so important so I´ll probably buy something more useful.

If people don´t like it, you won´t sell a s***. Jobs is simply too self confident. He is playing with us. He knows that his products could be better and we know it too. But he only wants them to be good enough, not too good. They must not be too good, because there would be no room for improvements. And improvements mean new models and new models mean new customers.

It's not up to Apple to provide software for a competitor's proprietary document format.

That's news to me.

I think that would be illegal.

I don't think you can argue with Apple's sales figures.

And all of this is opposed to... what other perfect company / product line?

I thought it was a well known fact - the navigation could be used with Google Maps only. The first true navigation came with iPhone 3G.

I´ll go to hell anyway so I don´t care :D

Most people are average which means that most people can be satisfied with average products and services.

For me it´s HTC HD2 when talking about hardware and Nokia N900 when talking about software. But I don´t like thick phones and I like large screens so I would choose the HTC. Moreover the Windows Mobile and it´s applications are not bad too, it´s only disadvantage is that it´s slow and crashes (at least WM 6.1, I don´t have any experience with WM 6.5)

All this talk from Apple (Steve Jobs) regarding the 'openness' of Flash vs. HTML5 and yet we still have to install Quicktime to view videos on their site...in Safari nonetheless...hmmm....

I see how that can be deterring for some people. I for one don't find it practical to edit full blown documents on a mobile device because of the ergonomics involved, but everyone is different.

Ah, I thought that you were referring to the 3G(S), as that is the current model.

I was responding to your claim that something doesn't sell if people don't like it (at least that is how I understood it).

In other words, your preferred devices can be improved upon as well.

Let's face it, Apple doesn't exactly have a corner on the market with the concept of planned obsolescence.

Just more of Steve Jobs trying to justify the controlling nature of the Apple nanny state. While flash isn't ideal for mobile devices his real agenda seems to be controlling the whole Apple environment.
