I hate when someone tells me what I need and what I don´t need. Put it there and if I feel it´s not good enough, I won´t use it. But as long as I pay for the device, I want to be the one who decides what I will use and what I won´t.

Agree !!!

You and everyone else can **** all you want about pot/kettle crap, hate on Apple as much as you want, but they are the most (and dare I say the only) company truly innovating today.

If it weren't for Apple, we'd still be dealing with crappy browser support for standards, crappy interfaces (serial port?), crappy storage mediums (Floppy disk?) etc..

LOL.

You really think Apple is innovating? That's why their computer components are months/years behind? The only thing remotely innovating is the shiny white and/or grey shell their products come in, and that got old years ago. Some people may say their interfaces are innovating, but they are just over simplified for people who don't know how to use computers. A quick view of the comments from Apple fanboys on yahoo articles quickly proves my point.

The only thing they've really succeeded in lately is the iPod and iPhone. Indeed the iPod is probably the only reason they made a rebound. Without it, I'd doubt they would be in business today.

Apple didn't make USB. Apple didn't make the CD nor the DVD. They didn't make SSD's or flash memory. They didn't make SD or CF. They didn't make any of the storage devices I use today. They have firewire, which almost no one uses anymore. It is even slowly disappearing on their own products. Apple wasn't the first to support CSS and many other web technologies either.

Nearly everyone in the whole IT program at my school agrees they are a complete joke, including all but one of the teachers (who have been/are IT professionals for decades).

:p

I use way too many open source programs that don't work with Macs... My computing experience would suck if I had to switch...

Plus,,, Maximize button... No app for that? WTF.

I'm sorry that our school systems are such a joke that they teach you this crap.
Are you an IT Major? What field are you intending to go into?

BTW> Apple was doing just fine before the iPad, before the iPhone, before even the iPod.

As for shiny oversimplified - Why not try using something before you degrade it? Have you even seriously tried using a Mac? There are things like UI and HIG that are much more proven than your "it looks too simple to be powerful" mantra. You really should learn about things before you spout off about them. Seriously.

By the way, there is a ton more to innovation than just inventing stuff.

Apple is the driving force behind most of the computer industry. There are three main influential factors when it comes to technology and internet:

Apple
Porn
Gaming

That's it.

They are certainly innovative when it comes to Mp3 players...

I usually watch my porn, game, and read about new Apple products from my PC; occasionally all at the same time.

Looks like CBS is also moving to HTML5 (external link) to appease Apple's iPad. First ABC and I suspect most of the others will move that direction, too.

Flash crashes Android phone browser:

Opera Software goes with HTML5 for the long haul because it's open:

Scribd ditches Flash for HTML5:

Flash is going away - the sooner, the better.

HTML5 is not a replacement for flash.

Android 2.2 'Froyo' and Flash run like butter on Nexus One (update)

Flash is about as open as Apple Quicktime, which is required to view any videos on Apples site.

It will replace a lot of what Flash does, especially video.

The videos at Apple are optimized for Quicktime, but it's not required to view them. I open them in MPEG Streamclip, Plex, VLC, XBMC or several other apps. All Apple videos use h.264 and AAC, both of which are open standards. How about Flash?

If the Ipad won't open all the pages my netbook will then I don't see the need to go backwards.

Maybe Video, but flash does a lot more than video, and it would require multiple languages combined to do the same as flash.

I uninstalled Quicktime and couldn't view any videos on apple.com.
