Youtube videos - best app to create them ??

What is the easiest and best tool to create youtube videos?

I have two years experience creating broadcast video for television, so I know what I'm doing but the tools I used - Premiere and Ulead Media Studio Pro - are overkill for what I need.

My needs are very simple:

- Import still images and the ability to utilize Ken Burns style of editing (pan, zoom)

- import or record an audio track

- ability to render output at whatever resolution, frame rate, etc. that is beneficial to youtube and will create the optimal quality video.

do you mean thinks like Imovie?

these days, YouTube will accept pretty most anything as an upload... avi, MP4, mov, etc. etc. .... so... I suppose use your favorite video editing program... get the video under the size limit... and upload....


if so inclined, you can download a free FLV convertor that will put the file into the Youtube FLV format before uploading to reduce the processing time.

What I'm looking for is a very basic editor. Just that basics: single time line, drag and drop an image, easy pan and zoom, drag and drop a transition, etc.

I used to be extremely proficient with Media Studio Pro 8, but that was years ago and besides, it is way too complex for what I want to do.

(I should mention Windows-based, not mac).

For the most simple of tasks, I use Windows Movie Maker... for the absolute simple stuff... it works well... for the more complex... I use Powerdirector. ... I made a slideshow type video for my wedding reception (scanned pics from childhood) and just used the automatic move maker in Picasa

Ive used Windows Movie maker....

Ubuntu 10.4 has a new movie editor that is supposed to be excellent. I haven't tried it yet but...

Sony Vegas does all the stuff that you are looking for, not sure if it would fall into the category of 'overkill' though. Its what I use for making youtube videos.

IMovie!? it even has "export to youtube" button.

If you're used to using Premiere then Premiere Elements might be a good idea - it also has a simple option to convert and upload to YouTube.

Windows Movie Maker is very simple and easy to use, the latest version will also upload directly to youtube for you.

Thanks, appreciate the reply. Yea, kinda overkill. When doing broadcast videos I looked at Vegas once and thought it had a somewhat unfriendly user interface. But that was many years ago. Perhaps they've changed.

Thanks. Many have recommended WMM. I'll look into it. Never gave it much thought before - I'm one of those people who tends to shy away from software created by the Borg... eeerrrr, Microsoft.... but as I understand it, it's free! Who could ask for more!!
