Rain sleeve?

Hey all,
I am looking at doing a lot of outdoor photography this summer. My plan is to only take my XTi out if it's not raining, and my crappy point and shoot out if it is. However, things do not always go as planned. I was recently looking into solutions for what to do when I'm already outside and away from my bag, and it begins to rain. Seeing as I would like to keep shooting, I looked into a rain sleeve for my XTi.

While understanding that this would be far too long, and a different hole would have to be made for the viewfinder, what do you guys (and girls) think? I was looking to spend less than twenty dollars on it. I'm not looking for it to be something to take underwater, just to offer enough protection that I'm worrying about the shot and and not the camera.

Thanks!

Zip loc bag with a hole in the bottom and a rubber band is a great rain cover if you want to keep shooting. Stick the front of the lens out the hole in the bottom and use the rubber band to keep it in place. You can then stick your hand through the top opening to reach the buttons easier and since it is clear you can see where all the buttons are.

if using a long lens, newspapers are delivered to homes in a long thin plastic bag that is about right for most lenses, again with rubber bands to hold it in place.

I also carry a big 'contractor cleanup' trash bag, mainly to lay on the ground if it is muddy and I need to get low for a shot but also because I can stick the whole camera bag in it if I'm caught in a downpour.

hahah those are definitely good DIY solutions -- tried a few myself.

if you're looking for good covers without going for the $50-150 ones made of kryptonite, you can look into Optec which makes nice disposable (though you could get a few uses out of each one) rain guards for your camera. they're small and fit in your pocket. carry and dispose of as needed.

If you can read this, you don't need a macro | 7D + 5DIII + Waaaay too much spent....

OpTech Rainsleeves (external link), between $6 and $6.50 for 2.
