Dave, this is really ruining your reputation as a "hater"! Just thought I'd mention it. :)

A little revisionist history there, Rudi. Allow me to refresh your memory: You're the one who was branded by PCB as being a "hater" as I recall. I was just there to egg you on and enjoy the ensuing interplay between the AB zealots and a hater. I miss those days.

Didn't see any, Jerry, but I was prepared. I made sure to put on my Nomex underwear before powering on for the first time.

Nice. Would love to see some color/wb consistency shots at lower power. I have read the specs which look very promising but real world tests from forum members like yourself are much valuable.

Funny you should ask. Earlier this evening I dragged out my Gossen Color-Pro 3F color temperature meter to do a quick test on the Einstein. At full power, the meter read 4970K. At -4 stops, it read 4950K. At -8 stops, it read 4950K. The Einstein was in color mode. These are typical readings from a minimum of 8 pops at each power setting. In any case, color temp variation pop-to-pop at any given setting was never more than 20 degrees K according to the meter.

I wouldn't necessarily put too much faith in the absolute reading in degrees Kelvin. To me, it's the extremely small variation in the color temp readings from full power to eight stops down that's noteworthy.

I've gotta get that Gossen calibrated one of these days.

Yep, that sounds impressive.

One other quick observation before bed: There have been reports that the Einstein doesn't play at all well with Pocket Wizard Plus IIs. Some individuals are getting terribly unreliable triggering, even at very short distances, while others are reporting no problems at all. I decided to try a PW test.

I mounted a PW II in a tilting flash shoe which was screwed onto a length of 1/4-20 threaded rod which, in turn, was slipped into the back opening of the Einstein's umbrella tube. That put the PW in very close proximity to the body of the light. At distances available to me this evening (up to 25' or so), I found a camera-mounted PW would trigger the Einstein with 100% reliability. On the other hand, my Sekonic L358 with PW module had very poor success in triggering the flash from distances beyond approximately 8'.

The setup:

Too soon to draw any firm conclusions. More testing under better controlled circumstances will be required. Of course, in all probability, most Einstein owners/users will rely on the Cyber Commander and Cybersyncs so the PW issue (if there is one) will be totally irrelevant.

can you take a shot of the csxcv port? do you take off the csxcv during storage of the lights?

That's a photo of Jerry Kacey's WL/AB adapter with attached Elinchrom adapter. I'm hoping to be able to use my Elinchrom modifiers on the Einstein.

You won't have any problems...a few folks have done this already.

BTW, what's the difference between the spill kill and the PLM reflectors? I thought there was only one, so thanks for the photos...
