when I choose RAW+L(jpeg), it is indicated on the menu so I assume it saves both formats, but:

1. I can't seem to view both versions in camera, and when I load pictures on my computer I only seem to be getting jpegs.

2. When I power off or the camera powers off automatically, the menu setting reverts back to just L(jpeg)...no more RAW, so I have to go in and re set it every time...is there a way to have it stay RAW+jpeg?

Sorry if these are lame questions but I've surfed all over and can't find answers.
Thanks

1 - when you view through the camera, you only see one image. i think its based off of the JPEG. when you are only seeing jpegs, you probably dont have the RAW codec.

2 - are you in the green box mode? th edial could be getting turned back to that mode. if you are in any of the creative zone modes the RAW+JPEG should stick, unless there is a custom menu shortcut that resets the format to just jpeg (i.e the SET button sets the quality back to just JPEG). in that case, i suggest clear all the settings and restore the camera to defaults.

Quality settings (JPEG, RAW) will not stick unless you press the SET button after making your selection. Try using a card reader to upload your pictures to the computer. The RAWs will be IMG_xxxx.CR2 and the matching JPEG will be IMG_xxxx.JPG.

Also, when you say you load the images onto your computer and you're only getting JPEGs, what are you using to find and view the images? Windows Explorer / OS X Finder or something like Lightroom, Aperture, etc?

i am using mode C2 / C1 (saved picture style etc.).

i can open the .CR2 in photoshop 2.0 (yes you read right - 2.0). Need to get some other kind of software definitely. So a side Question, what you guys would recommend, and also can I import photos from the camera and name them as I wish (my usual is 201004XX quick phrase to identify the photos 00X). Loading photos using windows fax/picture viewer allows me to name them how I like but Photo Professional / EOS utility does not (just assigns a number).

Is there a program that can replace Adobe PSE effectively and also function as a file transfer utility?

So i guess the only real problem is the RAW+JPEG setting will not stick past a power down. maybe there's a setting I can change then save into C2/C1 mode on the dial?

thanks
D
