Other then the obvious focal length difference, working distance, etc. Which one would you choose? I'd be using the lens for macro and general shooting when I need a longer lens.

I'd go with the 150. It has HSM which will serve you better for non-macro shooting.

Which body ?

I have the 150 on a FF.... love it.... does well for non macro work also...albeit a frustratingly slow and awkward AF.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

The 150mm because of HSM.

Apparently I've been dubbed Foxy.

I used the 150mm for a few years and it was an excellent lens. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it again in the future if I needed another macro lens.

Canon 40d. Have a Sigma 30 1.4 and 18-50 2.8

I'm hoping to hit the local camera store over the weekend and get a chance to handle both and see how they are.

I have had the 150 for just over a week now. It has impressed me. Not sure how you could claim AF is slow - put the focus limiter on and for normal shots it is very fast.

Man, I don't agree with the Af part.I don't find it all that slow and it sure ain't awkward. It handles an 1.4 tc very well also .

I also disagree about the AF, I found it to work quite well. I used the 150 mostly for my aquarium stuff and I missed very few shots with it.

I would go with the 150. I had the 105 for a while....great images, but the AF was verging on 'agricultural'. I bought the Sigma 180 last year, really like it, but you can sometimes feel a little 'detached' from the subject....if that makes any sense???? I'm actually thinking of replacing it with the 150.....just a 'feel' thing I guess?

AF is good. No lens for sports, but great for everything else.

I have had both, get the 150mm!

Seems like the 150 wins. I don't shoot sports.. Hope it will do decent for some birds and such. Might rent one to mess around with it.

Even with a teleconverter , it's a little short for birds. Wrong lens for that.
