Can u edit RAW images? I looked at one today and fell in love. I'm looking for a reason to buy it.

I have not heard of any RAW editors for the iPad...i think the editors out there convert to some sort of jpeg first, but I'm purely speculating based on the hardware restrictions of the iPad (256mb ram) making RAW editing very unlikely...it let's you view and transmit RAW, but all editing I have seen has been jpeg.

Ever since version 3.0.2, Aperture works on the iPad (external link) (click on the Aperture 3.0.2 Release Notes link in the web page). Aperture is now at version 3.0.3.

To be clear, I would say that aperture works WITH the iPad, not ON the iPad.

I was trying to think of a reason to buy an ipad, and while I think I have streamlined my rationization process, I couldn't come up with a good reason. I have a desktop iMac and a MacBook pro that I can carry around and edit photos, so justifying the iPad was tough. Then I decided that because I turn 52 in July, that was reason enough to buy a new toy, so I'm picking one up tomorrow. Not everybody "gets" to be 52.
I probably don't need a camera connector kid as I won't be editing on it anyway, but I could get my photos into it by creating a mobile me gallery. AFter I edit my photos, I always upload them to my mobile me gallery anyway, so I can view them on my iPhone. If I have the mobile me gallery app on my iPad, I can view them and show them that way without needing a camera connector kid. Yes?

That makes perfect sense to me. Enjoy!

What about a Wireless File Transmitter? Could it transfer the photos directly to the iPad without adaptors, cables and other complications?

You would be much better off getting a netbook. The ipad does nothing.

I'm looking at getting an iPad for the same reasons so all this info is great and it's good to see some of you using it like this already! Just wondering if people like Adobe might do a lite version of Lightroom?Would be interesting if it was just the catalogue system and enabled you to shoot teathered!

I am waiting for 2 or 3 other offerings that will be out starting in July, for many reasons. The iPad feels good in the hands though, I will give it that. I don't like the lack of ports, memory and flash support, so the wePad and a couple of other offerings look interesting this summer.

Well, it is an interesting device. I want to watch and see how it evolves over the next year or so. If Apple is consistent with its product improvement history, the iPad will have features added in near future.

Damn! I'm already 52. Does that matter, or does it mean I have to buy one before I turn 53 in July?

I really do hope that Adobe bury the hatchet with Apple and release a Lightroom Catalog Browser. This would take your LR catalog on Mac or PC and export a version with preview images resized to something that the iPad screen is more suited to. One could then browse the catalog, using Lightroom Keyword and Metadata filters. Essentially it would just be the LR Library module.

Photoshop for iPhone and iPod Touch already exists as freebie. My guess is that it could easily be ported to the iPad and since the screen is bigger, Adobe could even add some functionalities.

Besides, doesn't the iPad run on the same OS as the iPhone? I admit I'm not following these things as much as I used to so I might be wrong.
