Temperature sensing is easy to build in - it's good it's in there.

You don't have to put it in the refrigerator - that's as likely to cause as many problems as it cures. Rapid temp cycles are not a good thing for most products, especially electronics. The reason that sensor is in there is to protect the iPad.

In hindsight, I suppose putting it in the refrigerator might have been a bit melodramatic, ha ha, but I was in a hurry to continue using it and was hoping that would speed up the process. I'm sure the cool breeze did mask how strong the sun was because I got a mild sunburn on my legs, so I suppose that the sun beating down on the screen which was on my lap was quite hot. I was only reading internet stuff, nothing too intense... Anyway, thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

I've never had a laptop overheat from the sun, and I'm in a very hot country.

No processor cooler on your laptop?

Uh, your laptop has a fan. If you turned that off, you'd have had a big problem. AND the battery on your laptop won't go 10 hours. Your laptop also doesn't weigh 1.5 lbs (maybe 2-3x that). It's a tradeoff.

I'd also bet that if you put your laptop out in direct sun as the OP did, the thermal gain would be way more than your laptop fan could handle. Provided the laptop is equipped with failsafe temp shut off, it would shut off too.

I got involved with some of the new LCD panels that are used for displays in direct sunlight - for things like fast food displays etc... I was shocked at the thermal gain that these things see in direct sunlight in places like AZ or CA. They have to be cooled or they will fail. Temps up well over 60C.

I'd bet that even just turning the iPad display so that it was not in direct sunlight but perhaps the back was, it would have not shut off.

I use my iPad on very hot days, how hot you ask? :)
It's not so much the heat as the direct light hitting it. That yellow triangle bout made me ???

Zagg makes a screen protecter they use a grinder on and the screen stays safe.

Photogene will edit the raw files, rgb slider, histogram slider, ....
I tried a few just cause, though I don't use it to edit raw, you can sit and tinker with it running a few ideas on the screen. ( beats a laptop ) in transit when nothing else to do.

Acquired mine early so I could grandfather the unlimited 3G before they halted that option. Purchased the unlimited 7 days before they stopped offering it. I hardly ever bother with WiFi.

For viewing in daylight it leaves much to be desired thou it is viewable.

It will do everything my iPod touch will do including running my cameras if I chose, on a much larger screen.

Is it the " Cat's Meow " ? Na! It does however Purr when you use it for what it is.

Oddly enough when they went from AsA to ISO, many though it a hoax
As they thought auto focus was.

I just saw this the other day:

Wireless... BUT... it requires a Jailbreak! Anyone willing to give this a go? ;)

I am going this route. Eye-Fi->Router->iPad (external link) Should be home waiting when I get there. No JB required with this and better battery life.
I have "bench" tested with my iPhone and FTP. Shuttersnitch worked great. Eye-Fi, router and Shuttersnitch set me back ~$120.

My iPhone is JB and I could forgo the router but battery life is reduced going the JB route.

My main goal is a quick preview versus storage, editting etc...

Camera setup would be the 1dMkIII CF for raw files, Eye-Fi in the SD slot and a small jpeg being written there and transferred to iPad, iPhone or a laptop wireless.

I have laptops out the wazoo, so I went the OnOne DSLR remote way. My minis last forever when I close the lid and there's no screen to power. I might however look into that card to see if possibly losing the USB cable is doable. I use my laptops as routers ad/hoc so already have that part.

Things to make you go humm! I might try that just for grins

Just need to keep in mind that the eye-fi pro is required for an adhoc connection
$135 vs $45. Mobile router was $75

Vewyy intawesting indeed. I may well have to check into that just to see if it will work.
Therecis a chance that since the iPad is already ad/hoc'd to the computer it may not. Ah if not I can still get shuttersnitch and yet another tool in the bag.

Thanks for the heads up lest I would have ordered the wrong card.
