backups in lightroom

I noticed that everytime I do a backup (when the program starts up I select backup) it creates a new rather large file. Is it OK to delete all previous backups and just keep the most current? If so, is there a way when you do the backup to automatically overwrite the previous backup? I use a mac.

Yes you can delete the older backups.

I don't know of a way of making it only keep one backup though but I'm sure having the word lightroom in the thread title will make Victoria sit up like a meerkat and rush along to help .

I'd never overwrite a backup doing a backup: If something then would go wrong during that process (and Murphy's Law guarantees it will), you'ld have a problem and no backup.

Just a few minutes ago I swapped my hard drive in my imac with a new one. I had already cloned my old hard drive onto the new one, and then I did the swap. However, after I cloned, I added a few more pictures to lightroom. I made adjustments and then did a backup. Then I copied the new pictures as well as the backup file to an external drive. Once I finished with the swap, I placed the pictures and the backup file into the correct locations on my main drive. But the pictures did not show up. So I did a re-import and now the pictures are there. But the backup file doesn't seem to be doing it's job as the adjustments I made are not in my new pictures. How do I get this info back?
