I was using a 70-200 2.8 I borrowed from a friend, and just taking some test shots. I was going through them just rejecting them but decided to keep this one and throw some PP on it.
How do you think it came out? What can I do to improve it? Or is it just a waste photo no matter what.
I think 1 is a little flat, compared to number 2 but maybe has a little more mood

EDIT
Redone after suggestions

Mainly it tells a story. I'd clone out the black thing between her feet. The desaturated look is OK, but I'd go with straight black and white.

I think it is a bit flat. More contrast would be good here. And I agree with Ed, straight black and white is probably better.

I like the composition! Shame you clipped the very top of the righthand bush. The last edit looks nice. Interesting shot. Try and experiment a bit with the contrast. A bit less might improve the "cold and wet" mood.

I really like your edit #2. The feel of the image is a bit drab, but, I still get the sense that the subject and child are bright and cheery.

I think I like the black and white look better. Great composition. The lady and carriage is positioned moving into the frame - good, however, the more I look at it I feel like she's closing in on the big bush in front of her. It's her against this big object. I love the concept, we all work with what we got and try to do the best with all elements of composition. Considering that you've done a great job with it.

Agreed.. The subject the women walking with the baby is perfect for the composition but, the thing that really is taking away from the image is that Bush in the background.. Its just too big and prominent so my eye keeps on moving away from the subject.. Awesome job with everything else!

Yeah, cut down the bush and re-stage it KEN ROCKWELL style!

;) :p

Problem with street photography (park photography ;) ) is you don't always get to choose the location. You can choose the crop though. :)

Haha I'm 50/50 on that crop. I definately think it cleans up the composition and brings focus to the subject. On the other hand, having the subject walking so far into the frame adds to the adventure/journey aspect

Agreed about the overly dominant picture. If I was planning this shot specifically and I noticed this flaw after reviewing it as I alwayd do, I'd make an attempt to reshoot this with a more flat background. That is, of course, if this wasn't spontaneous.

True.

You can crop it a little longer too. That's the art of cropping. :)

I wonder if PS CS5's life changing ( ) Content Aware thingy will help you remove the tree. ;)

Don't worry about it though. It's street photography. It's not meant to be perfect. :)

When cs5 arrives I am going to try content aware on my life. As for the photo, I think a tight crop of only the woman would show symmetry and draw the eye to wnder the photo. Wandering eye = interesting shot.
