Since I mostly do sports and landscapes, I figured I would have a go at people. I took this at work a week or so ago of my crew. When I was going through the folder this was in, I thought it would look cool if it had an "album cover" type look. Processed in LR2. Thanks for your input.

Looks like the sun was pretty high - like noon?

Worst time of day to shoot people pictures. Sun squints, shadows over face, blown out highlights, etc.

It was about 11:30. True the top light is not the most flattering, but there was a fair cloud cover that softened it up a bit. This is the first time I have done any PP on people... I was hoping to get a rough and rugged look out of this.

No real contact with the eyes. Do you have a flash you can use for fill? If not try using a reflector... any large white surface.

A little spot on the eyes might work...

Yeah, it'll work a little bit. However, nothing compares to getting it right during the shoot. Less of a pain in the post-production part of the process =P

Agree that this could have been shot at a better time. However, your exposure is rather nice. I understand that you probably wouldn't have had the time (or been able to convince the guys to stick around for you) to set up a reflector, and compose the photo more, etc. However, if you could have, it would have helped a lot.

Thanks Clay... At the time the photo was taken, we were in the middle of filming. We just finished a lighting setup and had no time to set up, just get posed. It would have been funny if we lit the shot and then lit ourselves. Call the Grips over to give us a bounce fill...

Here is what the original image was...

Some fun.alot of edits for this one to play with;)

If one could lessen the light in the Bg, it would help.

Looks like I'm in the minority but I really like the original you posted. It is kind of mean and moody like an album cover and the guys have great faces, full of character. I love it :)

Cloud cover is a very good time to shoot people outdoors. Nature's softbox. No harsh shadows. Personally I like the comp other than the distracting background.

Thanks a lot! That is exactly what I was going for. Everyone has their own taste as to what they like, but that is what I was going for.

I knew that the light in the BG would be of concern. If I had more time to compose, it might have worked a little better. Thanks for the input.

like the original. might've needed an extra stop, as the guy on the right is a little soft. that could just be my crappy work monitor and tired eyes, though.

i like the composition quite a bit, though. liked the muted colors as well.
