cr2/jpeg filing

dear friends
currently i download using DPP software, and I am able to give all my photos the date, name, in a whole batch from the SD card in the camera connected to my PC via USB.

i understand there is something called hyperdrive out there where i can download my pics there, but will i loose this ability to label my pics like i can from the way described above.

If not, I am going to buy the lightest notebook to travel with me, seeing that the netbook cannot load the DPP easily and work becuase of low screen resolution.

This is basically a fancy image tank, much like the Epson P-series. You use it as a portable means to offload images from your flash card to a higher capacity hard drive while on the road. That way, you don't have to buy a boat load of (comparatively expensive) flash cards to hold everything you shoot during your trip. Then when you return home, you copy the contents of the image tank to your computer and process your images just like you normally would.

Thanks for your insight. Yes I have seen that somewhere on teh internet.
But I guess my questions is that when you down load all of your pics in there, how will the filing of the name work? will it be like 0001.jpg, 0002.jpg, or can you label each one like you can in DPP software like 2010 05 01 Dad's party 0001.jpg, 2010 05 01 Dad's party 0002.jpg etc etc

Otherwise I wll just buy a light cheap computer to download photos

The image tank will copy your flash cards verbatim, using the original folder structure and filenames. When you get back to your computer, you use your regular downloading process to rename, label, sort, etc. your images as you like.

The image tank is just a go-between: instead of downloading your images directly from your flash cards, you now download them from the image tank. The rest of the process remains the same.

Thanks much for your insight. So do you mean to say that it is like a bigger flash drive, where you dump it all into the "hyperdrive"and then when I go home, plug it into my computer , and down load the photos with DPP canon software?
