i've used the rc4 system before and actually liked it.

just curious...did you hold the release switch in all the way, while pulling on the lever? there's a secondary safety on the rc4. if you just push the switch and pull the lever, about half way, you'll have to push the switch again to free it completely. i'm sure you know this but i've had to show a couple people how it worked in the past.

I also love RC4, not a fan of RC2, still yet to try the arca-swiss. My RC4 is still very smooth and easy to mount & release, I've noticed mine still has a bit of grease on it from when new which is probably important for continued smooth operation.

Snaps into the 410's existing clamp, replacing the RC4 plate and thereby converting an otherwise excellent geared head to Arca-Swiss standard.

Ahh thanks for that link! :)

I honestly have no complaints about the RC4 plate as it mounts to the tripod as it really does fit very securly (almost too well at the start of the thread ;)), but my major complaint is that the rubber on the plate has very little friction to it - its just too soft. Even when a tripod collar/camerabase or focusing rail is screwed on very firmly there can be slippage to the sides if the setup happens to lean one way or the other. I've even had the glue on the rubber slip the rubber a little and it push out of its mount (not by far, but a little bit). So the Arca swiss was interesting to consider for its more sturdy (from what I hear) grip to the camera/collar/rail.

Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too
