Carl's '49 Caddy Coupe deVille has a Northstar engine. Isn't it pretty?
The Northstar V-8 came in a 90-degree & 60-degree configuration ( in '93), DOHC, four-valves-per-cylinder engine from the '94 Cadillac Eldorado, and puts out about 300bhp. I hear that you can get factory new 2005 Northstar engines for an unbelievable $2500.
I'm not sure what version this one is. Carl was passing out flyers for his show & I didn't get to talk to him. His daughter did ask me what I was doing, though. I said, "I'm here to reposses the car". That was good for about a 10 second double-take!
"Another reason why the Northstar is so special, is that is made completely out of aluminum. The Northstar Engine does not have any moving parts in its iginition system. Magnetic sensors are positioned at the crankshaft and camshafts. Those sensors are triggered by notches in the crankshaft and camshaft. These generate an ON-OFF pulse wave, similar to the open-closed position of classic breaker-points." Qutoes from http://www.draac.com/iframe-layout1/page3.html![]()
Carl puts on a Full Custom autofest with 61 classes in September. He expects 1,000 cars this year.
