Carl's '49 Caddy Coupe deVille has a Northstar engine. Isn't it pretty?
The Northstar V-8 came in a 90-degree & 60-degree configuration ( in '93), DOHC, four-valves-per-cylinder engine from the '94 Cadillac Eldorado, and puts out about 300bhp. I hear that you can get factory new 2005 Northstar engines for an unbelievable $2500.
I'm not sure what version this one is. Carl was passing out flyers for his show & I didn't get to talk to him. His daughter did ask me what I was doing, though. I said, "I'm here to reposses the car". That was good for about a 10 second double-take! :D

"Another reason why the Northstar is so special, is that is made completely out of aluminum. The Northstar Engine does not have any moving parts in its iginition system. Magnetic sensors are positioned at the crankshaft and camshafts. Those sensors are triggered by notches in the crankshaft and camshaft. These generate an ON-OFF pulse wave, similar to the open-closed position of classic breaker-points."

Carl puts on a Full Custom autofest with 61 classes in September. He expects 1,000 cars this year.

This is a SWEET set up with a Northstar engine. :D
No moving parts in the ignition? 300 HP? You can pick a new 05 model up for $2500?
Sounds like a match made in Heaven for a Street Rod builder. ;)

It's a great melding of looks & go, isn't it? I just wished he'd parked it out in the open!

Nice. I'm part of a two cadillac forums. I wonder if those guys have seen this before?? :D Oh, and where did you hear you can get Northstars for $2,500!! I was quoted $10K to replace mine at a local caddy dealer. And I ended up spending ALmost 3k on a used one.

I found it when I googled 'northstar' to get some current info on the engine. Didn't notice the date though, so it may have been an old article. ;)

"I was quoted $10K to replace mine at a local caddy dealer." A Yugo dealer would have quoted a cheaper price!? :D:D

Very nice pics of a beautiful car. I like the minimalist look of that engine well.
