My Take on Silverstone

It has been a while ... None the less here is my take on Silverstone over the weekend

1. The British F3 Championship ran 3 races. The new complex section produced several different version of the racing line. It will be great once they plant the grass and loose the pile drivers from the backgrounds

exif says 50d with 300 f2.8

I do a mixture .... Mk3 or a 50d and my two favourite lenses are the 70-200 2.8 and the 300 F2.8

The 50d and the 300 makes a poor mans 400mm - A 600/F4 would be nice but just a bit to expensive at the moment. I need another couple of contracts

The Mk3 and either lens lets you work at 500 or 600 ISO in the press conferences for the candid shots with a little fill in flash - example The low sensor noise is just excellent

Thanks for the reply,last time i was at Silverstone on a job was the now long gone GP Masters and think the 300 lived on my MKIII 80% of the time.Will be going up to have a look at the new track before Moto GP as will be the spectator side of the fence this time and need to work out if i will have to hire something longer than the 300 + Tc's.

The complex works well at 300 on a crop body. The really good shots that would lose the backgrounds and the mud in the new section are 500mm+ from the angles I could find.

The best shot looked to be across the where it joins the national straight in to the previous braking zone. Good depth and it is an over taking point. At 420 (1.6 and a 300) I was way short

From the pit grand stand 300 on the MK3 would work well

Thanks again will mainly be around the new track using a 1D MKIV so will see if i can either borrow or hire a 500 for a couple of days.

Number 4 is my favorite, I really like the composition

Very nice selection of shots which really capture how dull and overcast most of the weekend was at Silverstone. You've managed to get some great shots of the Formula 3 cars too which aren't easy to photograph from my experience.

It was a weekend of fantastic close racing I thought - the fact that the cars were this good looking made for a great weekend of photography too.
