I love flowers, and have actually been starting to put together my own personal collection of Missouri wildflowers that can be found in our property. While I was looking yesterday, I thought I would try out stereophotography for the first time. I figured that a photo of some of our irises would work. To get the image to become 3D in appearance, you need to cross your eyes and get them to merge into a 3rd image between the two. My mom said that the only way she got it to work was to place her finger in front of her nose and slowly move it out. Enjoy!

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Thanks! They are lots of fun. My poor mom told me to stop sending them for a couple of days, though, because she was starting to get motion sick from crossing her eyes so much, LOL!

Ha! What fun to see it in 3D! It took awhile to *get it*.. but well worth the effort.

Is it just two identical photos? .. or are they offset a hair?

Its called Stereoscopy... They are offset a hair just like the human eyes.. If you close one eye then switch you will see the field of view change. The brain takes the images that it sees from both eyes and and creates a single image. Since the camera can only take "one" prospective you need to create two with one just a little off. The Wikipedia tells you all about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stereoscopy (external link)

As to the picture.. I LOVE IT.. The flower really jumps out from the background. Almost like im looking at it in real life!

Thanks Playm and rcfury. Playm, there is freeware called stereophotomaker that is very easy to use in order to make your own. You, too, will become addicted. At least for a short while until your tummy tells you to stop due to motion sickness, LOL!
