Thanks for that info Bill. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying how much we appreciate your efforts.

Can we assume that there will be a proper announcement when the book makes it into print?

I'm sure I must speak for many interested prospective buyers when I say that we do not want to miss it.

Yes there will be...

Bill and Ed are getting things finished as we speak. Ed just started a new job that is sucking up much of his time but they gotta be real close to finishing. ;):D

Sorry. That was the pizza and beer I had for dinner. Any updates on this? It's been a long time in the making now. And I do appreciate the work everyone is doing on this.

That burp almost sounded like a bump :).

Ed and I have parsed the people section so that we are each taking half of it, but I am afraid that he has been doing most of the work lately. I sort of got commandeered by the Missus to get things prepared for a whole house remodeling project which is now in full swing. It is almost like living at a construction site.

Bill,

You have my sympathies. I'm running out of excuses myself and will very soon have to get stuck into tiling our downstairs loo. Luckily its not large, just fiddly.

I take it this is the last of the sections to be tackled? Have you any notion of time scales after you and Ed are finished? I'll not hold you personally to any hints you give, but a rough idea would be nice.

That was the intention. Was just looking for a status update. Really looking forward to this.

Worse than doing the remodeling work myself, I am forced to watch "professionals" destroy whatever they touch. Craftsmanship is dead.

Officially, it is the last section, but some of the sections that have been done for quite a while apparently have not been updated to incorporate review comments (at least that is my impression).

There are several steps remaining after all of the sections have been done including:

  • ordering the sections and then assigning the official page numbering.
  • Inserting other material such as introduction, foreword, TOC, front and back covers, lame excuses, and whatnot.
  • Smushing all of this stuff together into one big PDF.
  • Preflight, check for correct color profiles, glaring errors in text, layout problems.
  • I momentarily considered printing a proof for my own review purposes, but came to my senses when I realized that over two hundred pages of photos and white text with a solid black background would cost who knows how much in ink alone, not to mention the cost of photo paper.
This may be a bit of a challenge since two or three of us used Adobe InDesign while most others used Photoshop.

Thanks for the update Bill, I appreciate it.

You think craftsmanship is dead? Just watch me tiling, never appeared in my case. I overcome my lack of any skill in that direction by being VERY slow and methodical.
