Don't waist your money on the kits, Grab a 7D body you can grab for around $1500 on ebay. Spend the rest on a lense.

I just bought mine on B&H ... stay away from the eBay kits.... all of the included other stuff is trash... been there.. done that... spent over $1200 on a T1i "kit" that came with 18-55IS, 75-300 and a bunch of low grade crappy filters, crappy flash, useless carrying gear, and mis-functioning SD cards... The ONLY thing I have left from the kit is the Body itself.... that I could have gotten for 1/2 the price.

You can get a 15-85mm kit for around 2000. Sell the lens for $700 and end up with the 7d for 1300.

+1

Kit lenses are jacks of all trades, master of none. They might be good in daylight, but for just about everything else you'll need either a flash or a tripod.

Buying on BHphoto is your best bet. Just get the body and viola!

I've had great luck with Canoga Camera. Like others I'd say stay away from eBay. If you don't buy from an authorized vendor you might wind up with a gray market camera or one with out a warranty in which case you might be better of buying used since you can easily find a very lightly used 7D for $1350.

I bought my from amazon and was basically happy with the transaction.
The one thing I hate about amazon though, is that they want to sell you higher priced shipping. To encourage that, if you don't pay the premium, amazon sits on the product for about 5 days before shipping. I know some of the photo shops (e.g., 17th street photo) do not do that.. they ship it same day or second day.

I recommend a local respected Pro camera store in your area that has a long-standing good reputation for serving professionals. That way, you have a friend in the business you can go back to with questions or problems that will respond immediately in a personal, professional and helpful way.

Count the cost of 'saving money.'

There are places on eBay, but I got mine from DigitalRev, however now it's 2089. Still a good deal.
