I am having problems finding a review for the Flashpoint F-2228. Any body have any experience with this ?
http://www.adorama.com …roductPage/FPTPF2228.html (external link)

It would be going with this head
http://www.adorama.com/Als/ProductPage/FPTH2.html (external link)

It is between this and the Manfrotto 055xprob.
I like the Flashpoint because it is carbon fiber and pretty much the same price as the Manfrotto.

The tripod's pretty new, so I suspect there isn't a large base yet. I've got several of their heads; I'd suggest going up to the F-3 head, not that the F-2's insecure, but the F-3 would be a better match for the tripod's specs.

Thanks for the heads up Jon. I searched google and even went on the other side (Nikon) to see if they had anything to say. I guess I'll be the guinea pig and see how it goes. The only problem is I am a n00b and the tripod I have now probably costs less than 5$. I can try to meet up with the so cal guys to see what they think to give a review.

Thanks for the suggestion on the head. Ill order that one instead :D

So I got my set up today
I don't know how good it is, I just know its 251384354568 times better than my plastic one. If you want any pictures in particular let me know.
Here we go:

Both boxes had a bag in them. The head bag has a draw string and its like a velvet and its square on the bottom. The tripod bag is for carrying it. You can see the place to put a card in on the right it has a plastic window. It has handles and a shoulder strap. It also has padding ALL around it. I thought that was pretty nice.

This is what was in the bags

I put the head on and well set up the tripod. Not really much explanation needed

It goes low

This low

You have to take off the center post to get it to go low. Its threaded so that took a few seconds

Here are what the legs and the bottom of the center pole look like (it was still detached). The legs have rubber on them or you can twist them out of the way to reveal the spike. (From the tutorials I have read the spikes are for self defense if some one is trying to steal your camera, or small bears)
I do not know what the hook is for on the bottom it was springy so I would guess for an anchor or to hold the bag lol
any one know or have a guess?

IMAGE: http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/7645/img0828z.jpg
The O-ring is for the legs. When closed it doesn,t beat up on them

Thanks for looking

Edit:
OH I forgot the tripod with head on is a TIGHT fit. But it does fit back in the bag with out taking off the head. Does not feel like its going to tear and didn't have to wrestle it but it is tight.

Ya you correct on both counts. It is to hold your bag as an anchor. in high winds, attaching your bag will help weigh down the tripod, effectively making it more sturdy.

Thank you colby b!!
I was like 80% sure anchor and throw all my stuff in a bag and hang it.

if it's too tight, loosen the ball and drop the clamp into that slot for portrait orientation. that should give you at least an extra inch of space.

can you take a pic fully extended on all legs just to see the height?

im contemplating between this and the 055xprob and im torn in between. from specs, the weight difference is a pound with the frotto being heavier at 6.4lbs.

im leaning towards the 055xprob since it has horizontal orientation, and the f2228 does not. and like i said, the 055xprob is only 1lb heavier which is very negligible, for me at least.

is it stable?

I was looking at that but that pushes the tripod and head to the side and was harder to zip up. This was the easiest way. THANKS FOR THE IDEA!!!! Us great minds think alike haha

I am at work now but I can do it when I get home. The legs full extended with the head and camera on it I was about one inch taller than the eye piece standing strait up. I am 6*2

Yeah i saw it was only 1lb. which is nothing I agree. But if carrying the tripod for an hour I would assume it would matter then, but I wont carry the tripod that long haha

I was on the exact same fence that you are on. I Searched everywhere and didnt find much info on this one so I could not make an informed decision

It is stable for me I dont have anything to compare this to other than my plastic craptastic tripod
OH you are in vegas? I will be there memorial day if you want to try it ill bring it to the craps tables with me lol

one more thing, does the ball head have friction control?? so you dont have to fully unlock the ball? or is it just ball lock and pan lock?

OK its a deal!!! 4 queens is the only place I know of that will let you take pictures inside the casino.

Yes it does it has a knob you gradually turn to make it harder to move the camera

most casino would let you take pictures inside the casino as long as the main cage cashier isnt anywhere on the frame. but yeah, 4 queens would let you take pictures inside.

Sorry no one wanted to model the tripod so we put it in a door way for reference.

The neck can still be moved up this is as low as it goes.
