Took this over the weekend up on Palomar Mountain. I did a 33% crop and cropped even further to get a bit more zoom, I still managed to retain a lot of the detail. It was a real late moonrise that night, around 10:15pm or something, so the moon was still real low in the sky and I think that's why it was orange in color (thanks San Diego pollution). I used a flash to illuminate the tree branches, felt like it added something to the composition. Enjoy!

No, didn't go up to the observatory. There isn't really anywhere to get a good viewpoint of it from the road, and it's gated off at night so you can't get close to it, unless you hike to it. I do have a bunch of other pics that I took from up there that night if you'd like to see them, most are just night landscape shots, the moon was super bright so it was lookin like daytime at midnight, gotta love that.
