Does anyone have them on their dSLR?

Is it worth getting it for my 50D?

You already have an LCD protector on your 50D. It's a very tough plastic cover over the LCD that Canon put there.

IF you manage to scar it up (which many of us have not been able to do, even with a lot of hard use of our cameras), you can replace the factory LCD cover for something like $20 US or less. It's held on with a two-sided tape and a suction cup is used to pull the old LCD cover off so that you can replace it.

+1 I just use the garden variety LCD protector from the LCS. I'd find is easier to just replace LCD protector for a few bucks rather than sourcing and doing the Canon replacement, which looks more involved.

None, and no damage. On any of the various cameras I have. I only use screen protectors on my Pocket PC because the stylus can get gritty.

replacing the screen protector definitely looks easier. i'd be annoyed if i end up getting too much dust or a smug under there.

I dont think a clear plastic sticker would have saved that one

but I agree I run with the screen protector on so it wont get scratched. 5$ protector vs 20$ cover.

Anything that would damage the Canon screen cover would go right through the $5 "protector" on its way. Canon's covers are tough.

+1 I was more talking about the scratches scenario in my post rather than the cracked protector. Just saying it is a little bit messier to change the canon lcd protector, if it needs to be changed.

Well, it's a lot more trouble to try to clean the Canon screen absolutely dust-free to be able to replace the "protector" without it picking up lint multiple times than it is to change Canon's cover once. Based on my experience with PDA covers, you'll go through 5-6 covers before you need to change a Canon LCD cover.

I broke down and put my PDA LCD cover on my 5D2 because I got so much make up on the LCD, it's hard to clean off. With the cover, it's not so noticeable. But you don't really need it.

I have not had any issues with the Young Micro protectors, and you get 2 for about $6-7 shipped from PC Microstore. They are not a cheap flimsy cover, but still go on very easily. You clean the screen, use your blower to do a final lint removal and lay the protector on, push from the center outwards and you are done. It takes just minutes, it protects from the occasional zipper rub, lens filter edge rub in the bag, etc., is cheap, but thick and easy to clean and see through. I always buy the larger set and trim one of the two down to fit the rear display and have enough left to do the top display. Again it is worth the $3 in my opinion. I have replaced the Canon parts in the past too though.

I've used a iphone screen protector, cut to size, for both back and top LCD screens...works great and no residue, etc.
