My 70-300 IS USM is a bit short for birds, but still trying to learn.

Nice shot Rob! I had one and used it for a couple of years. I got a lot of fine shots with it. You might wear camo cloth or use a blind to get a little closer with that lens. Keep shooting.

Nicely done Rod. I guess it all depends on how close you can get but with 300mm you will be able to do some decent bird photography such as this one.
