Here is my first photo post from my trip last week to Rocky Mountain National Park. This is Dream Lake. I got up two hours before sunrise and hiked two miles uphill in the dark with my super heavy Bogen 3221 tripod just to bring you this photo. Hope you like it. :D :D :D

Aw, Dave, it's gorgeous, much as I expected from your trip.

BTW, we were at Bear Lake by 5:15 am today, not much of a sunrise. A weak glow, then just sort of lit up everything at once. We took shots, then hiked to Nymph, Dream and Emerald Lakes. Oh yeah, it was windy everywhere but Nymph Lake, so we didn't get many reflections. It will take me a couple days to get to them. Look forward to more from you.

I'd say it was well worth it.

Beautiful! I love that you can see the rocks in the foreground under the water. Thanks for sharing!

Well, it's a little dark. :) (ducking and running). :)

No. Great shot! Love the composition and reflection. I only wish there were a small cloud or two in the sky. :(

Let's see more!

Thanks for the comments. I had fun getting this shot. It was a really nice morning. I only wish there had been a cloud or two and less wind. The lake had some ripples. I used a 30 second shutter speed for the photo above. The ripples are the reason for the misty look to the water.

What do you think of this shot? My tripod is in the same location as the last pic, but this shot was taken 15 minutes later when the Alpine glow had already started. I think I like the first pic better, but I also like the red. Please disregard the oversaturation on this one. It was a quicky PS job. Maybe I'll fix it when I get up tomorrow morning.

Stan,

Sorry to hear about your bad luck at bear lake. Maybe next time. I got really lucky. I only had one morning for shooting in the bear lake area and got lucky with clear sky and calm winds. I would have like a couple clouds, but you can't have everything work out perfect. Here's a pic I got down at Nymph Lake. This one was taken about 45 minutes after the above pics. Nymph lake was smooth as glass the morning I was there.

Nice shootin' Dave, I am impressed with the early rise, the hike, and the weight carried to get these wonderful shots. Thanks for sharing...............Joe

Dave, these additional shots are also great. We'll try again at Sprague Lake. No plans for these old legs to repeat Dream Lake.
