If so, please discuss why you did and what the outcomes have been.

Well I did not sell a lens to get the 135 f2, but this lens is one of Canon's best! It is fast (f2) great for lowlight, has very fast AF which is great for both indoor and outdoor sports. It can be used with TC and with a 1.4 you are still at f2.8. It is a stunning portrait lens even on my 1.6 crops! It is a fantastic concert or theater lens because of f2 and speedy AF. All this and it is reasonable priced and VERY, VERY sharp even wide open! No zoom will every compare with the sharpness you get from a prime. Just get it you will not be sorry.

I have not done the trade, but I too have thought about doing this but I am having a hard time letting go of my 70-200 f4 IS. I've had situations in which I wanted to use it indoors but it just doesn't do the job especially in darker venues. I would greatly miss the versatility so as of right now I am leaning on keeping my 70-200.

I have done this exact trade. Check my signature, there is a link in my Gear List. I liked the option of speed more than the option of versatility. It was the reverse for the person I traded with.

I sold a 70-200 f4 NON-IS for a 135L. And finally, after 2 months of using it, I bought a new 70-200 f4 to complete. Now I wish it had IS...

I've heard of a few people running 135L's with 1.4TC's that seem to be pretty content

Really, these two lenses would compliment each other.I want the 135 (next one on my list),but I would not part with the 70-200 f4IS to get it (possibly the 2.8).They are (to me)totally different from each other and both have different specialties. One thing they have in common is that they are one of the sharpest of the primes and zooms that canon makes (w/out breaking the bank too bad).

I did.

My 70-200 4IS was a great lens! I loved the IQ and form of it. What it didn't have though was adequate performance for indoor events & sports (which I shoot a lot of) and enough separation for my taste. Bokeh also could be improved.

However, I found the 135L to be in another league. All the PP time people put into images to boost contrast, saturation, and sharpness this lens gives you right OOC. Its incredible. Sharper than the 70-200f4 even at f/2. The bokeh is to die for.

While I just told you how amazing this lens was, I have been getting frustrated with the fixed focal length. Many times I have wanted to zoom WIDER and couldn't because of lack of room or after I did move the moment was lost. Also, I was changing between the 85 and 135 a lot and changing lenses gets old quick, if you work in a fast paced environment like I do. I think this can be overcome by having a second body with a wider lens or zoom on it.

In any event, with the introduction of the 70-200 2.8 IS II, and its great reviews, I have decided to sell my 135L and try that route. Possibly give up some IQ and a stop of light for the flexibility of a zoom again. However, I am not looking forward to the size & weight, and white paint. The 135L is nice and discrete, and btw I never wish it had IS on it on a 5DII or MkIII.

.. probably because I am most of the time not a journalist, I am never in a hurry to take picture... so I sold my zooms 70-200F4nonIS and 70-300DOIS ..
 I am very often much more frustrated that I can't get the right angle than the right distance (For distance, I can move a few steps and even crop quite easily with 5DMKII).
And when I have like a journalist job for quad bike racing (I do it for web sites) I can always move to the right place (I use 300L2.8nonIS and 135L2.0) and get isolation power and contrast that other journalist don't get with zooms, so pilots love to get my pictures as they are really not common and ultra sharp :D..
For indoor use .... F2.0 is so different from F4.0 .. that I don't need to explain the advantage.

In short... mostly, I take time to get the right picture, so I never miss my zooms (I kept my 70-300DIIS, for one year, just in case .. but I sold it because I took it really rarely, as if I was obliged to use it  sometimes)
