does Canon have a trademark on the red ring?

I saw a pic of the new Sony telephoto lens:

and it had a red ring around the lens. (the linked pic makes the ring look orange, but in the magazine I saw it in, it was red)

I got to thinking, does Canon have a trademark on their red ring that signifies a "L" lens.

sigma has a few lenses with red rings as well. First one that pops into mind is the 75-300

No they don't.

In fact, I've seen a couple that looked like they had UV filters with red rings.

I guess they didn't think too trademark the red ring or perhaps someone else had it first.

Why not? Just like perfume makers create a new scent by mixing whatever it is they mix.

DeWalt yellow comes to mind. If someone starts marketing tools in that same color I'll be DeWalt would have something to say about it.
