Prom posing

My daughter's prom is friday, and she and her friends want me to take shots of them. I am a part-time wedding photog, and would ordinarily not have a problem with nice romantic and cutesy couple shots. BUT, I have no intention of posing my daughter and her friends in the "typical" wedding type shots.

So, I am wondering if anyone has some more genteel posing suggestions. For background, we will be outside in a gardn if possible.

I'll like to know also....

She and several of her friends are actually taking "just friends" and they really are not actually dating the guy. So, yeah, romantic poses are out

I have little experience personally (having raised twin sons), but my intuition says that teenage girls, especially when a few of them get together and start enjoying themselves, know exactly what to do in front of a camera. If it were me, I'd just gather them up with a nice soft background, keep them all tight, take a couple of everyone-just-stand-there shots, but let them have some fun and shoot away. I think great fun and expressive photos will take care of themselves.

I'm doing exactly this tonight. Came looking for advice but I think I'm going to bluff it
Will be using the 7D with 17-55 and going to take 430 & 580 and mabe reflective brolly. Not really used it all together and probably won't need it if the weather is good.
