I think your depth of field is inadequate in #1. Of course, one could take the position that the background is a bright nuisance either way, with which I would agree whole-heartedly.

The second shot is much better with no problem in the background or with the DOF. I really like that one, because of better action, better composition and reasonably good lighting (the shoes are a little too bright).

I agree with Bob. In #1 the DOF is too harsh and the girl on the left is out of focus.

I like #2 except I'm not sure I like the mood you got with your PP. The colors and contrast seem cold, which doesn't fit the subject.

Which version of the 85mm did you get? the 1.8 or 1.2? Are you using it on a FF or crop?

#1 - I agree about the DOF - wide open, the DoF is very narrow, and you need to put both subjects on a very narrow line, which is hard, if not imposible to do. You should either put one of them behind the other, or not put two people in the same picture. DoF aside, one change you might consider in the future, would be to change your angle so you will have no sky in the picture. The picture would be more pleasing if you did that.

#2 - as it was said, this is much better, but the mood is slightly off - it's desaturated, and it doesn't work well with the subject. Mood should be joyful, and happy, instead it is dark and gloomy.
