The Tokina 12-24 is incredible... And for $350, you simply CAN NOT beat it!

Build is incredible. The IQ is awesome for such a wide angle and is just so much fun to use.

Personally, I would not even consider the Canon or Sigma after using the Tokina... But that is me!

+1 :D

Read the reviews as some of these wide angles do not perform well at the extremes. I got a Sigma 28-70 f2.8 constant and it's soft up to f4 and then at f22.

Lets be realistic. 1) At f22 is hardly surprising you don't get great results considering diffraction that's true for all lens. 2) Even primes are softer wider open than stopped down a bit. Really, which lens performs the best at "extreme"? I can't think of one that people tells you you should only shoot wide open or max stopped down all the time. 3) You will not need f22 to get enough DOF with a crop UWA (10-20, 10-22, 11-16 etc). 4)A 28-70 is hardly UWA on a crop body.

Also, from my limited experience with my Sigma 10-20, the UWA tends to have a tremendous depth of field, even wide open. Where I can get bokeh on my Tamron 28-75 at F4 there is none on the Sigma, which is the Max Ap on the Sigma that I have.

With so many crop UWA options out there, i would eliminate Canon 10-22. It's a good lens but not good enough for the price.

Sigma 10-20 offers the best value. It' offers execllent color, contrast, Center sharpness, focus speed, built and extremely reasonable price tag. If you don't need fast speed (to shoot in lowlight), this is the choice. I used it on SONY and I used it on 500D. Both copies were great.

I have read a few reviews and looked around a bit, overall they have the "same build" in the end its the 1mm vs the 2.8, I might go for the 11mm 2.8 vs the 10mm 3.5.

Really its only difficult when thinking about it, im sure im going to go for the first "good deal" i get on ebay or another used site.

+1 on 11-16. I got mine through a local craigslist seller almost brand new, and couldn't be happier. It's great for using indoors as well and eliminates a need to use flash for me.

It is plenty good. Even for the price. Plus it's the only lens with canon's AF algorithm :D

if you're buying a 12-24mm for your ff camera...i don't see the point in buying an uwa for a crop...

I just went through the UWA debate myself. I ended up with the Tokina 11-16 and couldn't be happier. The extra stop alone is worth it to me, but beyond that, the build is great, the lens is insanely sharp, distortion is surprisingly well controlled, the 11-16 range is all I feel I need on a UWA (don't miss the extra "reach" of the other options), etc.

Really, when it comes down to it, I don't think you can truly go wrong with any of the UWA options for Canon. They're all good for their own reasons. For me, the edge went to the Tokina though for everything I listed above.

And FWIW, you can use it on the long end on a FF body (14.5mm - 16mm). Basically like having a 16mm 2.8 prime. When you consider that, the already reasonable price of the Tokina gets even that much better.
