May 06, 2010 13:42 | #2 I find that I agree with pretty much the entire list of points there and especaily with the last point - a day out shooting with no instruction or where the photographer is not "watching" their students simply won't work for the students at all. You can only ask a question if you know to ask it otherwise you can keep doing the same mistake(s) over and over and that should be something that the instructor catches first if they are doing their job and not just focusing on their own photography. Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too

I think in general it's good to do some research and maybe talk to the instructor directly (if you can) about what your expectations from the workshop are. I think it would also help to figure out who usually takes these workshops. It might be that the instructor is aiming for serious amateurs, but if the majority in the class end up still learning how to operate their cameras, she would be forced to slow down.
