I'd love to know how this kind of panoramic image is made:

like this one from the great photographer Ayrton: http://ayrton.com …_graus_Evento_CNS_42.html (external link)

I know how to shoot and merge using photomerge, but I try to figure out how to do a 360º panoramic?

Any guesses?

What's especially interesting to me is that you cannot see the support for the camera either "looking" straight down or straight up. Also, I cannot find any indication of movement of people's hands, feet, etc., between adjacent shots (if that's the way the panoramic was done)

I love the looks that everyone is giving the photographer too. You would have thought a child molester or Jeffrey Dahmer was standing there.

I always wondered how they did these types of shots too.

I would say its more like a video tour. You take multiple images and then stitch them together using a software to create the video tour. I was researching on how to do this awhile ago to use in my real estate business.

check out they have tons of examples:

Can be done with certain software, a fisheye lens, a tripod and 3 photos. Have done this sort of thing myself using someone else's setup and software - works extremely well.

yea the new york times has had these on their site for ages. a few people i know went to a newspaper convention and one of the photogs explained it. they use a panoramic head (obviously), but some big bulky and crazy expensive kind (ill inquire about the model since one of them wrote it down), and just take like 5 photos around using an ultra wide or a fish eye then throw it into a flash program

i believe my friend also has the handout he gave describing it fully. if i can get my hands on it ill be sure to scan it and throw it up on here

I saw a great website that showed 360 VR photos like this. It's not technically panaramic but more VR since it's showing every possible angle and you usually control the viewing. What is most amazing is the lack of any support in the photo, as if the camera is hovering in mid-air.

I did find from the above link they use these cameras.

Digging around I found a photo of the actual setup used to capture the 360 images.

Looks like the images are not automatically rotated but stitched. I'm guessing because the camera does not appear to have any motor abilities built in.

Ahh, here's a good detail about how it's done.

Look at the bottom of the page. I'm guessing the whole "no legs" is done by a separate series of photos stitched in with the rest.

Here is a tutorial on how to do 360's with Hugin. :) I've never created one before but there are lots of different programs to do the stitching.
