his game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new editing tricks.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture, re-sized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being re-sized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 72hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #280".

This game will end at 8:00 PM EST on Wednesday, May 9th. Have fun!

i had a LOT of fun editing this photo. it had a lot of potential to begin with!

ok here is what i did:

convert to b&w
edit contrast
hardcore dodge and burn
added my own sky (i took that pic on an airplane :))
added reflection of sky to water
(i shouldve cloned out a few things but i didnt think it made much of a difference)

and the result:

Below are a couple of workups using Corel Painter.

The top image was created using a smearing cloning brush. Using multiple layers I worked on the different elements of the image eg. sky, water, grass, rock and bridge and them combined them together.

This bottom image was my original workup - I don't really remember the steps because it was something that started out completly different and just kinda ended up as you see it below - I know I used a rough canvas and a couple of different cloning brushes. I'm only posting it because I kinda like the rough canvas effect. Anyway the top image is my entry ...

Duplicated background, cloned out pole.
Selective colour adjustments on grass and sky. Duplicated layer in multiply mode and used grey 50% layer to lighten and darken selectively.
Noise Ninja then selective sharpening and stroke.

xHassassin: Nice job bringing out the color. I think its a little warm for me but you made the sky pop. I dunno if its my monitor by I see a very harsh line in the sky. Kinda off putting. All in all you gave the photo nice feel as if I was walking home across MY bridge in MY yard.

obnoxiousmom: This is the least creative of the photos, but the most technically correct processing. Which sometimes is all a photo needs. Im pretty sure you achieved your intentions and if I wanted a "Clean" edit to hang on my bedroom wall. This would be the one.

nanette37: Mmmmmm!! Nannette Nannette Nannette!!! You must have been folloing my style of work, and realized im crazy for high contrast dramatic photos when it comes to land scapes like this. I would have never thought to add clouds seen from an airplane, and the dodging and burning make me tingle. You did mess up the water line though, toward the left. And the walk way on the right is a little to blown out. All in all.... nice job

blsvlo: Honestly, not a fan of the crop. It takes away from the composition and negates all rules of thirds. The rock I felt was important to the comp. You are the only one who brought a true blue to the water and I think you did a great job on that. Others certianly over looked it.

Palladium Say whattt!!!! Im crazzzzy about this edit. So much more unique than all the others, not even in just this competition. I feel convinced this is a painting. My negatives are that the brush strokes might be a tad bit to long near the water, taking away some detail. I also wish it wasn't as flat as it is. It could use a smalll boost in black/curves/contrast

NigelD: Hi Nigel! Well, I see what you were going for but I hate to say its just a little over saturated and to warm. There is to much yellow in the grass, the walk way and the rock. I usually look into your style of editing and feel like you might know to much about pp that it works against you. Your best edits are the ones where you keep things simple. Hope i'm not sounding like a jerk.

Great entries all! I have to say... it took some thought but the winner is NANNETTE! She hit my personal style of editing right on the head!
