I just learned that if you purchased a G11 at Best Buy along with a service plan, you can get a free battery replacement (one time) and it doesnt void or expire your contract.

I went to Best Buy and was talking to someone in customer service and they tipped me off to this and lo and behold, when I got home, I called the 1-888-bestbuy number and mentioned that my battery wasnt performing as it used to and they shipped me a new one, no questions asked.

The kicker, they dont ask for your old battery.

So, if you purchased the G11 and service plan...get your free replacement (eh, extra) battery!

That's a bit dishonest for my taste; but to each his own.

There is nothing dishonest about it...there is wording in the service plan for 1 free battery replacement. Its part of the plan.

It's not really free.

The odds of using your service contract for a repair are about 10,000 to 1.

Sterlingtek sells a 1350mAh battery for 14.99. How much is Best Buys free battery?

Look up the word replace, then the word additional, then the word lie, then the word dishonest.

I'm with Tadaaa on this one.

Sounds shady to me. The idea is if the battery fails, not if you lie to them and say it is failing so you can get a "free" extra battery. That is dishonest.

I have 2 extra batteries and I paid for them both.

I bought a replacement battery on Amazon for $4.99 (it is NOT OEM, but I'm thinking you probably knew that).

Although most service plans are a rip off, that still doesn't make it OK to lie. Shame.

well, from what the OP stated, i wouldn't say he lied, he said "mentioned that my battery wasnt performing as it used to and they shipped me a new one" which i'm certain is a true statement. since as wonderful as canon's Li-Ion batteries are, there is no way they maintain 100% performance even after the first recharge cycle. while it might not have been performing badly, it wasnt like new anymore :)

The battery is an UltraLast UL-NB7L

but the packaging says its for G10...I have a G11.

I am not sure if this will work for me or not.

Both the G10 and G11 take the NB7L battery. It will work.

+1 Agreed Insurance is a scam and a bigger money maker than selling the cameras
