Does anyone own a Ricoh XR-P Multiprogram 35mm film camera?

I have one, but it doesn't have any batteries, so it's dead...however, the winder lever (to advance the film to the next frame) seems to be stuck. Is this normal for no batteries?

Or is it simply that it was wound up and now needs the batteries to release the shutter?

I got this camera for free, so I'm not too concerned, but it would be a sweet little camera if I could get it going. I ordered batteries for it to test it, but they'll be a few weeks yet.

Thanks,
T

My dad has one of these sitting in his closet, it exhibits the exact same behavior. I'm guessing you're right on the battery deal, but then it's just a total guess on my part.

Thanks! Glad to know I'm not alone haha...I'm just very impatient...batteries are still likely about two weeks away :(

My dad has a Ricoh KR-10 Super - if it has no (or flat) batteries in it and has been wound on you can't release the shutter. This makes it appear as though the winder has jammed until you insert new batteries and press the shutter button.

Excellent! Thanks very much :) I'm getting pretty excited...had this camera for almost a year...it was given to me and I figured it was broken and totally forgot about it until I moved two weeks ago.

I almost threw it out, but decided to order batteries just in case...if I can get it working it'll be a pretty sweet camera...I mean how many 35mm cameras do you know with built-in intervalmeters, tons of program modes, exposure compensation, etc, etc...it's one of the most high-tech consumer SLRs I've seen :)
