Hi folks,
I'm new to posting on this forum and it's been pointed out (and I've noticed as well) that my EXIF data isn't showing up in my pictures. I was wondering if anyone could give me a hint as to why.

My work flow is as follows. I connect my Camera via USB to my PC and use Lightroom 3 Beta 2 to download them onto the hard drive and into the LR catalog. I then do some PP in LR if needed and then use the Flickr publish service in LR to upload to Flickr. I link my photos in all posts. Below is a sample that has EXIF data here on my hard drive but probably won't show up here when it's posted.

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Redirected to error image by FLICKR

Any help on this would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks

Shot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, exposure 1/320, f7.1, ISO 1000, Spot metering, image size 291 KiB, pixels 1100x820, no flash, focal length 400mm, resolution 240x240, shot May 2, 2010 at 3:21:17 pm. . . . . Seems like most of it is showing up for me. What aren't you seeing?

I'm not sure where your exif is :)
What you can do is to process the original RAW file directly to JPG with default parameters. If that jpeg has Exif then you can copy it to your web-oriented jpg already processed. Use exiftool
exiftool -TagsFromFile pic1.jpg pic2.jpg

Hmmm... well that figures it would show up on this post. I posted some other stuff in the Critique Corner and it didn't show up there. Sorry for the false alarm. I'll double check the other posts.

Thanks for confirming it's there.

Yep, I just checked the others and they have: Image name, Image size, Number of pixels, Resolution, Number of bits per image.

If you are doing the same thing with this one that you did with the other, then you are going to need some input from someone with more knowledge than I have.

I can view the Exif data in the posted image.

Firefox 3.6.3 & Exif Viewer v1.55 (April 2, 2010).

The general problem is that people use "Save For Web" which strips the Exif.

My wisdom is learned from the experience of others.

Well then I don't know what's going on. I remember checking at one point and couldn't see it. And another person just commented to one of my posts that I had no EXIF data. Go figure. But thanks for checking.

Glad I got all my data out there. Maybe I should include my phone number, home address, credit card and bank account as well. Just in case anyone wants to deposit some money into one of my accounts.

Is there anything in the EXIF that I might NOT want to advertise? Can't imagine there is unless I stole the Camera or something like that.

Anyway... thanks again for the help.

Just checked the last thread and it's not there.

I'm going to re-trace my steps for posting this thread and see why it doesn't show up in these photos.

It's likely that Flickr is leaving off the Exif when they resize the image for viewing. I'm not a Flickr user, but I know that happens with my PBase account -- it saves disk space. So, if I want to post an image with Exif I have to post the "orgiginal" (PBase keeps it unless I delete it). You might want to poke around Flickr and see if they have an "original" tucked away. Someone here can chip in who uses Flickr -- there are plenty of users here.

I wouldn't include you home address or CC man your got some balls do to that. I think what you got is pretty good. Now keep in mind if you export or save your images from Photoshop as Save to web, then you are stripping the exif data from the image. If you want the exif data to stay in the image then save as JPEG and you will keep the exif data in tacked. Same for in lightroom.

I have plenty of image up on flickr and they do not strip the exif data from the image(s). You can ony view the exif data when you view "all sizes" if you try to pull it while looking and the preview images then you will not see any exif data.

You're right. I just checked and my original shows the EXIF data but the other sizes do not.

Is it OK to link to the original on this forum? The picture sizes are huge.
Thanks

BTW... Nice family portrait!

Told you so......:D You need to stick to the forum rules of long side max @ 1024px. What I do is upload a max long side of 1024px up on to flickr, if i do panos then I just upload the original size and I think there is a 1024 size on there done by flickr. You can add the link to the original size to the thread but you can not attach it, jut paste the link with out the tags.

As for the FP, thanks. There have been changes in the family since, but that was my setup for a while. 2 lenses have been replaced since that shoot.

So could you explain your work flow to me if you are using LR. Once you've made all of the adjustments to the RAW image in LR, do you then export a JPEG to some other place on your hard drive that contains your flickr stuff? I've been wondering about that. Do you then have 2 copies (1 RAW and 1 JPEG) in the catalog in LR.

Thanks

ADDITION: Disregard the above question. I just found the "limit size" setting in LR publish services and I re-published all my photos with the new settings. Thanks

Well After I import into LR I have a preset that applies minimal sharpening, vibrance, saturation, a touch of clarity and contrast to the RAW files. Then I edit them in photoshop, via right click, edit in, photoshop CSx. Once I am finished in photoshop I save the PSD via ctrl + s. That will save the PSD file in the same folder as the RAW images you imported into LR and it will automatically import it back into LR. If I need to export them out of LR I export them as JPEG, under image size I have long side selected from the drop down menu and set the size to either 1000px of 1024px. Under the Metadata I leave everything unchecked. Unless you want LR to apply your copyright to the image, then just check the last box add copyright.

Then your metadata should stay intacked with the images.

Hope this helps you out.

Sevan
