...so I'm not sure what to call it, but here is what I found will testing a Genesis 300B with Pocket Wizard ControlTL.
The upper left image is 300B with 36" octibox about 5 feet from subject. ISO200, Tv 1/200, Av F22.
Upper right image with ControlTL set for -170us and HSS disabled, Tv 1/500, Av F16
Lower left image ControlTL set for -170us and HSS enabled, Tv 1/500, Av F11, Lightroom gradient .66EXP from left to right, Exp +.50.
Lower right image ControlTL set for -170us and HSS enable, Tv 1/6400, Av F2.8, Lightroom gradient .66EXP from left to right.
All the images clicked White Balance temp within 50K and moved tint from -13 to -34.
I presume this is just using the tail of the flash with the HSS off set to provide a bit of uniformity across the frame.
