I think the problem here is labelling the G11 as a Point & Shoot. The G11 is a very capable, creative camera with full manual control, ND filter, excellent lens, great ISO range, OIS etc. Surely it should be labelled as a compact camera, not a P&S?...

I have a 10D, a 30D, a couple of L lenses. The quality, when you really want it for A2 prints certainly is better on the 30D, but the G11 offers pretty much all the same full creative control, in a much neater package.

At the end of the day, what makes a photograph a picture, and not just a shot? It's the creative composition and exposure that makes a photo interesting, and G11 is way more than capable producing that in the right hands - just as is a DSLR.

Now, let's talk about real cameras. Medium format anyone?

this thread is a bit silly, just use the right tool for the job at hand. there is a good selection of very good compact cameras and G11 is one of them. my usual 'walk-around' DSLR bag tips the scale at close to 3kg, guess what I usually take for a day out with the family? - G11, btw it's a pleasure to use, so the fun factor is another bonus :D
