Don't even think about the desert for at least another month. Back in June I got this temp... air temp was like 100, but the radiant heat from the asphalt & sand make it worse. Inside a parked car, the temp can shoot 20-30 degrees in a few minutes. I can't even imagine what it's been like this past week when the air temp was 115 or something..

Only 118?? Do you live in Ocotillo? It really wont start cooling down untill late October. So Cal (coastal) is so much cooler!! At 6:00pm it was 120 in the shade, couldnt even BBQ.

I think Ill go pull the tail on the mouse at Disny in La soon.......

LOL at all of you.

We should be able to get a decent group together...and LP, the Palomar drive is luscious. Once we get a good wind come through, the haze (erm, smog) will clear, and the vista will be outstanding.

I'm still thinking that the zoo in SD would be fun...and anywhere on the coast (La Jolla, Malibu, Leo Carrillo, Venice/SaMo Pier, 3rd Street promenade) would be good for end of September or early October...keep the ideas coming, although I don't think I could swing a Skunkworks outing.

I just found this thread.

I'm in San Diego, and would definitely be up for this kind of thing. Tell me where and when...

Any suggestions about what to shoot? Animals? Zoo? Landscape? people? Maybe all at once? LOL!!!

I honestly believe I've shot everything at the zoo that I could possibly want to shoot. That said, I'd go back again.

What about the desert? Head out to Anza-Borrego, and then swing through the Cuyamacas in time to get a late lunch in San Diego?

I'm Defiantly game for this, infact I was just thinking about something like this!

There is a great stream and waterfall up near me, its a hike though (and a trip down a pretty steep hill, but its not that bad)

We could always make a trip over to Catalina and see if we can track down the Bald Eagles and Bison, Not to mention Catalina is a beautiful place

O.K., but can we do that when it cools down some? LOL!!! High summer may not be the right time for the desert....

I'm heading out to see family down in SD in the second week of Aug, so I'll be doing the zoo thing then...

But that sounds like a good route, the Anza-Cuyamacas loop. Let's plan on something like that in the beginning of October. How does that sound to everyone?

See, I need to read all the responses....Catalina would be lovely - Avalon, Bison, dolphins, and the whole works...that would be a blast, especially during the summer. Let's do that in September, and then the Anza loop in October.

Oh, Catalina....now I'm really wanting to do that!!!!!!!!! It's been years for me!

Michele

We'll be going down to SD the third week of August, probably the Zoo thing also or the wild animal park.

I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

There's a very nice model railroad display in Balboa Park. You can smell the zoo from there.

I'm interested in any gathering in SoCal, and depending on the schedule, Northern California too.

you know, I posted a reply, but it didnt show up...Odd

Its been 6 years or so since I've been to the zoo, even longer for Sea World.

I'll talk to my Grandpa, hes been all over that island and will know some killer spots known only to locals, and we might be able to sail over one of his boats (instead of the Cattle boats)

Im free just about every weekend, lets plan it and get it going!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!! This is going to be fun. Johnny, would we be leaving out of SD or San Pedro? All I know about is San Pedro, but I'm sure there are other ways.

All right, how does the first weekend in September sound? Saturday good for everyone? Catalina?

Small coincidence. My wife and I were just talking about a trip to Catalina. There's certainly a lot to do in either San Diego or San Pedro/L.A./Long Beach Harbors

Belmondo, is there a way if I started a new thread we could get it sticky? That way, all the info would be easily found in one place.

And coincidence? Naw, it's GMTA! LOLOL!

Belmondo, you could take them out to the tracks and practice hiding from the UP agents.

Or, I could organize a party to go look for all my old tripods. Pretty much the same neck of the woods.
